Shared SMS Number Australia - Team Texting on Every Device

One shared business number for your whole team. Calls and SMS on every phone and computer.

A shared SMS inbox, with conversation history synced across every user and device.
Built on Ozetel Virtual Mobile Numbers and the Ozetel Phone app.
One number, many people

Several Ozetel Phone users send and receive from the same Australian mobile number, so customers text one number and your team answers.

Every device

The same SMS threads on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Type a long reply at your desk, pick it up on your phone in the car park.

Always in sync

Every message thread stays in sync for everyone on the number, so nobody answers a customer without seeing what was already said.

No SIM to pass around

A virtual mobile number lives in the cloud, not in a handset, so it never goes on holiday, gets left in a ute or leaves with a staff member.

Shared SMS lets a whole team use one Australian business mobile number for text messages. Customers text a single number, and the conversation appears in a shared SMS inbox in the Ozetel Phone app for everyone you have put on that number, on their Mac, Windows PC, iPhone or Android, with every thread kept in sync.

It works because the number is a virtual mobile number rather than a SIM card in somebody's pocket. We build the network, the platform and the Ozetel Phone app ourselves, so one number can belong to a team instead of a single handset. That is something most business phone providers simply cannot offer.

Why a business mobile in one person's pocket lets customers down

Most small businesses end up with one mobile number that customers text, and it lives on one phone. When that person is on leave, on a roof or in a meeting, the messages wait. "That message went to Dave's phone, and Dave's on leave" is a problem a shared SMS number simply removes.

Holidays and sick days

Whoever is working sees the messages. Nobody has to borrow a phone or set up forwarding before they go.

Staff come and go, the number stays

The number belongs to the business, not to a person. When someone moves on, the number and its conversations stay with you.

One number on your signage

Print one mobile number on the van, the website and the invoice, and know a person will see what customers send to it.

Personal mobiles stay private

Staff text customers from the business number in the app, so their own mobile numbers are never handed out.

How a shared SMS number works

Three steps, and we help you with each of them.
  1. Get a virtual mobile number

Choose an Australian virtual mobile number for the business. No SIM card and no handset to buy.
  2. Put your team on the number

Each person signs in to the Ozetel Phone app, and the number is assigned to everyone who should see its messages.
  3. Text from any device

Send and receive from the business number on Mac, Windows, iPhone or Android. Every thread stays in sync for the whole team.

Team texting on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android

Business SMS sits right beside your calls in the Ozetel Phone app. Type a long reply on a full keyboard in the office, then carry on the same conversation from your mobile on the way to the next job.
Your sales team can share one outbound mobile identity, your support desk can watch one inbound number together, and every message thread stays in sync for everyone on it. The app also takes calls on your business numbers and includes internal team chat, so the conversation about a customer can happen next to the conversation with them.
Messages, contacts and history the app stores on a device are encrypted at rest and kept separate for each user, so a shared office computer stays private when someone signs out.

Shared SMS for every type of Australian business

Any business where more than one person needs to see what customers text.

Trades and field services

The office books the job and the tradie on site sees the customer's "running 10 minutes late?" on their own phone.

Sales teams

One recognisable business mobile for every rep, with the full history visible when a lead is picked up by someone else.

Support and service desks

The whole desk watches one inbound SMS number, so a customer is not waiting on whoever happened to be rostered on that phone.

Clinics and practices

Front desk staff on different shifts all answer appointment texts from the practice's own number.

Real estate offices

Property managers and admin share one rental enquiries number, at the desk and out at inspections.

Hospitality and bookings

Booking changes and "are you open today?" texts reach whoever is on the floor, not the owner's personal phone.

More than team texting

A shared SMS number is still a full Ozetel virtual mobile number, managed online in the same portal as the rest of your phone services.

Calls as well as SMS

Land incoming calls on the number at any destination, including your phone system, and change it online in real time.

SMS to email and webhooks

Incoming SMS can also go to email, a webhook or another mobile, or a combination of these.

You decide how long messages are kept

Use the default deletion settings or set your own limits on how long SMS information is held.

Room to grow into campaigns

Eligible numbers can also send bulk SMS, with replies coming back to the same conversations.

What is a shared SMS number?

A shared SMS number is one business mobile number that several people can send and receive text messages from. With Ozetel it is a virtual mobile number used in the Ozetel Phone app, so everyone you put on the number sees the same SMS conversations on their own devices, and replies go out from the business number rather than from anybody's personal mobile.

Can multiple people use the same mobile number for SMS?

Yes. Many users and devices can send and receive from the same Ozetel virtual mobile number, with every thread kept in sync for the whole team. A customer texting your business number is not texting one person, so whoever is working can see the message and answer it.

Which devices does shared SMS work on?

The Ozetel Phone app runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. The same SMS threads follow each person between their devices, so a conversation started on an office computer can be continued on a mobile.

Do I need a SIM card or a special phone?

No. A virtual mobile number is not tied to a SIM card or a handset. Your team uses the Ozetel Phone app on the computers and phones they already have.

Can my team send SMS from a computer?

Yes. Full two way business SMS works in the Ozetel Phone app on Mac and Windows as well as on iPhone and Android, so staff can type replies on a full keyboard at their desk.

Does the number also take calls?

Yes. A virtual mobile number can handle calls and SMS. Incoming calls can be landed at any destination you choose, including your Ozetel phone system, and you can change that online whenever you need to.

Is shared SMS the same as bulk SMS?

No. Shared SMS is one to one texting with customers from a number your team shares. Bulk SMS sends one message to a whole list of customers at once. They work together: eligible virtual mobile numbers can also send bulk SMS through Ozetel Bulk Messaging, and replies come back to the same conversations.

How much does a shared SMS number cost?

A virtual mobile number is $9 a month with a $10 set up charge and no contract. SMS are 8c each to send and 2c each to receive. You will want the Ozetel Phone app to get the most out of Shared SMS. Costs start at $12 per user. Talk to us if you have a large number of users.
